Information

Woodford is a large village on the banks of the River Nene in Northamptonshire, in the East Northamptonshire District about 2 miles west of Thrapston and 7 miles east of Kettering between junctions 11 and 12 of the A14.

The early settlement was mainly a farming community with an increasing number of men working in the shoe trade from home in the early to mid 19th century. During the latter part of that century the population increased dramatically with the mining of ironstone nearby and also smelting at the ironworks just over the parish border in Islip; a trade which continued until the 1950s.

The village once boasted seven licensed premises, over twenty shops and two schools. As with most villages these figures have reduced dramatically but there is still a sports and social club, one pub (The Duke’s Arms), a Post Office / general store, fish and chip shop (presently closed), Hairdressers, Baptist Chapel, Parish Church and primary school (see organisations page). The population remains at just over 1400 (see census data).

New Website

This council website will be moving to a new name with new email address.in the next few months. This site was originally set up in 2000 and was believed to be only the second parish council website in the county, It even featured in the local press. Whilst the design has changed a three times the content has largely remained on the same theme promoting the work of the council, the village and its organisations. Set up prior to easy set-up sites and the creation of social media sites it was the Window of Woodford on the Web and put many people from across the globe back in touch with their ancestral home.

With the advent of easily accessible Social Media sites, and ever increasing legislation governing public websites the new site will become more of a local government website for the Parish Council with less emphasis on village its history and organisations. This site will remain available for about another ten months

Dog Fouling

Dog fouling is on the up in the village, and there is a legal responsibility for dog owners to clean up after their pets and dispose of the waste in a hygienic manner. The provision of dog waste bins is not required by law but are generally provided to assist the dog owner. Please use them. If on the other hand you are aware of dog owners not clearing up after their pets please report to North Northants Council by visiting www.northnorthants.gov.uk and in the search field enter “dog Fouling” or follow this link.

Attendance Parish Council Meetings

The public are welcome to attend Parish Council Meetings, and a time slot is allocated for statemnets to be made or questions to be asked. For more information see Council Meetings page

Woodford Streetlamps

Please report any faulty street lamps to lightsout@woodfordpc.co.uk. Woodford Parish Council owns all of the lamps in the village and repairs can only take place if we know about the fault and authorise the repair. Once the Parish Clerk is aware of the fault the contractor will normally repair the lamp in about a week. All you need to report is the lamp number (if known), or the location/address. Please don’t assume someone else has reported the fault. Two reports are better than one.
